After 6 months finally there is a new version of jk_poll. But what is jk_poll exactly? jk_poll is a extension for TYPO3 which helps you to do polls on your website. Here you can find a list of the most important features. The new version adds support for multilanguage sites and the extension sr_freecap. So now it is possible to translate the polls in another language and count the votes for all languages together or for every single language separately. For adding this feature different changes to the database structure were necessary. Because of this the extension doesn't work properly after the update by default. You have to use the entry "UPDATE" of the dropdown-box in the top right corner in the extension manager. This updates the polls and everything should work as before. But be sure to do this update if you already have an old version installed.
At the moment the new version of jk_poll is not uploaded to the TYPO3 repository. I'd like to publish it her first and do some testing. There were some substantial changes in the code and because of that I cannot guarantee the functionality without restrictions. But during the next weeks the extension will also be uploaded to the Repository.
Here you can find some demos of the extension. Comments and feature requests can be posted on this site. The updated documentation is available as PDF and OpenOffice.
Download version 0.6 now.
Some time ago VMware published their idea of a JeOS (Just Enough OS). A JeOS should be a lightweight OS mainly for use in virtual appliancesvirtual appliances. Ubuntu published Ubuntu Server Edition JeOS. A short excerpt from the description: "JeOS is a specialized installation of Ubuntu Server Edition with a tuned kernel that only contains the base elements needed to run within a virtualized environment".
But SCSI drivers aren't part of these base elements. This means you have to create a IDE disk in VMware in order to use JeOS. By default VMware creates SCSI disks. If you use VMware ESX Server you actually have to use SCSI disk since IDE disk cannot be created. Because of this you almost cannot use Ubuntu JeOS for productive virtual appliances. The worst thing is the status of the bug report relating to this problem: Won't Fix.
In this status you can do without Ubuntu JeOS for sure, just use the 'normal' Ubuntu Server instead!
